The West Wing live was totally fabulous. I was convinced I would pass Sam or Josh in the street.
Washington in the sunshine absolutely magic. Walked miles and miles. From Embassy Circle to the Capitol building. Fantastic walk along the Mall past the Washington memorial – the massive obelisk in the centre of the Mall. Looked really different not surrounded by ice. The reflection pools were empty. There were signs indicating the process of repairing would take many years and explained that DC is at particular risk of flooding – couldn’t imagine what flooding would do to the elephant, dinosaurs and mummies in the museum of Natural History.
Well what does an Aussie do in Washington – forget there is also a sun here – sunscreen what is that ? So as well as coughing ferociously have a wonderfully tanned face and neck. Wandered on to the Lincoln Memorial and climbed the steps to look up at Lincoln. Weird how things come to mind. I was standing there and immediately thought of a book I read as a young teenager – was my favourite at the time – Trixie Beldon and the Mystery of the Emeralds. I really must read it again. Well when I turned around there was the US looking fantastic – the view from Lincoln high, so great vista straight through to the Capitol.
Of course I popped in to have coffee with Michelle (she lives in the small white house just near the Mall). Up to Foggy Bottom and then through to Georgetown – a particularly gorgious part of Washington – close to the University. Great cafes, antique shops and the most beautiful US buildings – flags everywhere – of course I am in the US so the whole patriotic thing everywhere. Great photographic exhibition at the Smithsonian – Donna you would have loved it. I am now huge fan of Earlie Hudnall Jr. Looking out – great image
